The Academic Achievement Training (AAT) provides international students with critical skills for starting their American college life.

This two week training provides language, culture and study skills necessary for success at Binghamton. Participants also register early for classes.
The training includes:
- Extensive workshops covering academic, social, cultural and communicative topics
- Interesting cultural excursions to local marketplaces and museums with fun tasks to further develop understanding of American culture
- Opportunities to converse with local students and conversation partners
Campus recreational activities - Hands-on introduction to campus resources
- Course registration guidance
The total cost for AAT is $2,600 and covers the cost of workshops, trainings, housing, weekday meals, activities and excursions. Note: You will need your Binghamton University application nine-digit reference number in order to register. Your reference number may be found in your status checker.

How does the AAT work?
This training is open only to incoming undergraduate students who have been accepted to Binghamton University for the fall. If you have been offered admission to AAT and have questions, contact aatinfo@binghamton.edu.
AAT students come to campus approximately three weeks prior to the start of the fall semester.
To accept your admission for AAT:
- Pay your admission deposit by May 1.
- Complete AAT registration and make full payment by May 1.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who may join this program?
Required: Some international Binghamton University freshmen accepted for fall must complete the Academic Achievement Training. These students will be notified of this requirement in their acceptance letters.
Optional: Newly admitted, incoming international Binghamton University freshmen who have received an offer of admission for fall may opt into the program if seats are available. Contact aatinfo@binghamton.edu.
Dual diploma students coming to Binghamton for the first time may also opt into the training. Contact your dual diploma advisor for more information.
How much does the training cost?
The total cost for Academic Achievement Training is $2,600 which will be paid in one installment at registration. The cost of the training includes workshops, housing, weekday meals and excursions.
What is the refund policy?
Students who withdraw from the program before June 15 will receive a 50 percent refund. There is no refund after June 16. No refunds will be given to students dismissed from the program. Room and board refunds provided during the program are prorated based upon extenuating circumstances and are determined by the program coordinator.
Is transportation to the University available?
The Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) at Binghamton University provides information on the many methods of travel to Binghamton.
How does the I-20/DS-2019 work?
The Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) at Binghamton University will issue form I-20 or form DS-2019 after a student has been admitted into a degree-seeking program and has submitted sufficient proof of financial support. Once a student has successfully applied for and received their F-1/J-1 visa, they can use their immigration documents to enter the U.S. up to 30 days prior to the start date on their I-20/DS-2019. Students will not be issued a separate I-20/DS-2019 citing the AAT program specifically, as this program will take place during the 30 day period prior to the start date of their degree program.
How does housing work during AAT?
Students will be assigned temporary housing by the program coordinator for this training. Students need to sign up for fall housing separately through Residential Life, and they will be able to move into regular fall housing at the end of the training.
Are all meals included in the cost?
The registration cost of the program includes meals on campus Monday through Friday. Students need to have spending money to buy weekend meals.
